How to Prepare for a Couple or Family Photoshoot: Choosing the Perfect Location, Look & Vibe

Hi! I’m Ludivine and I’d be delighted to be your photographer. If you’ve booked, or are about to book a photoshoot, let’s make sure you’re ready for a relaxed, enjoyable, and beautiful experience.

You can already picture the smiles and perfect light… but you might still wonder How to prepare for a couple or family photoshoot ? What to wear? Where to go? How to feel at ease in front of the camera? I believe a photoshoot should be more than just posing. It’s an experience, a moment we share together.

Choosing the perfect location

The location tells a part of your story. It shapes the mood, influences the colors and light, and adds depth and meaning to your photos.

You might already have a special place in mind, or you can tell me a bit about yourselves and the feeling you want. From there, I’ll suggest locations that fit your personality and the story you want to tell.

To find the perfect photoshoot location, start by asking yourself:

Does this location feel like us? Feeling comfortable during your shoot is key. Choose a place that makes you feel at ease, hold special meaning, or bring you joy together.
Does this location reflect your style and the vibe you want for your photos? Think about your style, your look, and your energy. Choose a location that complements and highlights them. Are you edgy, soft and romantic, outdoorsy, or a city lover?

Here are some location ideas:

For couples: coastal paths, mountain trails, hidden streets, anywhere that makes you feel connected.
For families: Spaces where kids can move freely, like a park, the beach, or the comfort of your own home.

💡Tip : I’m based in Zurich, Switzerland, but I’m regularly available in the Paris area as I travel there often. I also work across Europe, so wherever your story unfolds, I’d love to capture it.

Outfits: Coordinate but Don’t Match

Forget the identical white shirts and jeans, the real magic happens when outfits complement each other. Once your booking is confirmed, I’ll send you a guide with tips on choosing a color palette and selecting outfits that work beautifully for couples or families.

About the Stress

My priority is to create a relaxed, comfortable space so you can feel good, have fun, and be yourselves.

Many couples or family worry they need to “perform” or be a model. Not at all !

At first, you might feel a little awkward and (that’s totally normal!), but this will disappear quickly 😉 Remember that the most beautiful images often come from small, unplanned gestures: the way you look at each other, a burst of laughter, a child running into your arms.

About the atmosphere

Feel free to bring a blanket, flowers, or something meaningful to you. You can even choose a playlist you love and play it softly during the shoot ! I’ll guide you, but I also give space for real interactions to unfold.

About the light

For family and couple photography sessions, I often recommend sunrise or sunset, depending on our schedule.

Sunrise is perfect if you want a peaceful and quiet atmosphere.

Sunset has the most beautiful light and tends to be more popular, especially for couple or family sessions.

Daylight sessions are possible too, especially if we’re shooting in shaded areas, but the light can be harsher, so we’ll plan carefully depending on the location.

Get ready for your photoshoot day

A few small details can make your day smoother:

Get a good night’s sleep before
Plan a little extra time so you can arrive relaxed and on time. I carefully choose our session time to capture the best light, and arriving late can affect the quality and feel of your photos
Bring water and snacks, especially with little ones
Bring a brush, hairspray, or gel, whatever works best for your hair
Don’t forget sunscreen and an umbrella, the weather can be full of surprises
A change of clothes. Sometimes a quick outfit swap can bring a whole new vibe to your photos, and you’re more than welcome to try it
Comfortable shoes
Empty pockets: For the best-looking photos, avoid keeping items in your pockets, especially your phone, which can create an unflattering rectangular shape. Bring a small bag to keep your essentials safe during the shoot, and try not to carry too many bags.

She suggested beautiful Swiss locations such as the vineyards in Lavaux/Cully, the old town, in front of a church, and by the lakeside. Every location had a wonderful atmosphere, and we were very happy with how beautifully the Swiss nature and scenery were captured in the photos. On the day of the shoot, She took couple photos, family photos with our daughter, dress photos, and natural candid shots. Her posing instructions were very clear, and the whole session went very smoothly. What we appreciated the most was how patient and kind she was with our daughter, who was not in the best mood in an unfamiliar country. Even when she became fussy, she waited patiently and kept trying to help us get good photos. Our parents and relatives also joined us, and there were moments when everyone became excited and moved around freely, but Moliere handled everything calmly and smoothly. Her personality was warm and reassuring, and because she speaks fluent Japanese, we felt very comfortable even during an overseas photo shoot. The finished photos are natural, bright, and full of the beautiful Swiss scenery and a clear, transparent atmosphere. We are truly grateful that she captured such important memories so beautifully. Nous sommes extrêmement satisfaits de cette expérience. Nos enfants se sont tout de suite sentis à l'aise avec Ludi, qui a été patiente et douce, malgré les contraintes logistiques (tétées, changements de couches, ...). Elle a fait preuve d'inventivité, d'une grande gentillesse et de beaucoup de flexibilité, afin d'adapter le rythme de la séance aux besoins de nos enfants, avec des pauses régulières. Nous qui n’étions pas forcément à l’aise concernant les poses ou les endroits à regarder pour les photos, elle a su nous donner ses recommandations et le rendu est magnifique ! Elle sait mettre en valeur grâce au point de vue, le décor, la lumière etc... l’édition des photos fut plutôt rapide et la qualité est au rendez-vous. Plus qu’un moment avec une photographe, on sent sa passion pour la photographie et son envie de tester de de nouveaux endroits ou nouvelles poses. Elle a su créer une ambiance qui nous ressemble, en choisissant des lieux variés, entre parc nature et quartiers plus urbains, qui correspondaient à ce que nous aimons. Tout était fluide, bien pensé, sans jamais être figé. Ludivine est très à l’écoute, douce, et elle prend vraiment le temps. Nous ne nous sommes jamais sentis pressés ou mal à l’aise. Elle nous a aussi très bien accompagnés en amont, notamment pour le choix des tenues, ce qui a permis un rendu harmonieux, naturel et qui nous ressemble.
